Wool is a vanilla item. You will want to collect lots of it in order to make certain items. It can be collected from Sheep by either killing them or applying Sheers to them. It can be crafted from 4 strings in a square formation. You can use dyes to change a wool block's colors.
Wool is one of the only items in the game to guarantee an aspect when used in a Thaumcraft deconstruction table.
