The Refinery is a BuildCraft block that converts Oil into Fuel at a 1:1 ratio or Biomass into Biofuel at a 4:1 ratio. Oil and Biomass can be pumped into the Refinery using Waterproof Pipes, or dumped inside by right-clicking on the refinery with a bucket filled with Oil or Biomass. Fuel and Biofuel can then be pumped out via Waterproof Pipes once the conversion is complete. Fuel is more powerful than oil, so it is worth it.
To refine one bucket of Oil into a bucket of Fuel, 10,000 MJ is consumed. If this is supplied by a non-upgraded Electrical Engine, 30,000 EU will be consumed in the process; this means that, in conversion, approximately 10% of the Oil's energy is lost in converting it, or 5% if using the Combustion Engine to Magma Crucible to Geothermal Generator fueled by Igneous Extruder method of MJ-EU conversion.
The two smaller blocks to the side of the central tank on the refinery indicate the Refinery's operating speed and its power consumption rate. If they are red, the Refinery is not in operation. Purple is the slowest possible operating speed, blue-green is the second-fastest and green is the fastest.
To reach the green indicator status, approximately 6 MJ/t are required.
Example Setup[]
Here is a simple example setup for two Refineries:
