The Central Processing Unit is the main component of a RedPower 2 computer. To utilize it, a Monitor and a Disk Drive are also necessary for the input of commands and the storage of programs/initial boot of the computer, respectively. To start a computer, a FORTH Boot Disk must be placed in a Disk Drive connected to the Central Processing Unit with Ribbon Cable or directly adjacent to it. The START button on the Central Processing Unit's GUI must be pressed, and then the Monitor (if connected similarly to the Disk Drive) will display the version of MineOS (the computer's operating system) and the amount of free RAM. By default, a Central processing Unit has 1,142 bytes of RAM, or just over a single kilobyte. This can be upgraded by adding Backplanes and 8K RAM Modules on top of the Backplanes to the back of the Central Processing Unit.
Trivia[]
The CPU's texture and GUI is based on the PDP-8/e, one of the first commercial minicomputers.
